I am incredibly enthused to learn that the USST & Andy Newell are entering the Tour de Ski!

It seems that the infrastructure & investment required to support one skier would be similar to the effort to support another one or two skiers. I am curious as to how the decision process went which arrived at one skier and not more. If it has to be one, we sure picked a great one.

No wild guesses allowed, please. Bravo USST!

I think that the U.S. entering just one skier is just for this year. The U.S. ski team jsut wants to feel out the competition and whether or not it is worth the cost of sending more skiers next year. My question is why is this the first year. Norway, Sweden, russia and other ski teams that typically get good results attend this and I may not know much, but the people who do well in this event tend to do well during the rest of the season.

Thanks Dell! Much appreciated. It is pretty exciting to have an American in the Tour - makes it that much more exciting for all us ski fans. I have a good feeling the Newell is going to put up some strong results.

I think with slightly better tactics and a little more endurance Newell could be the best sprinter in the world. He is one of the most skilled skiers out there as far as technique is concerned, very smooth and makes it look easy, and his diagonal striding is very impressive when he strides it out, very much comparable to some of the other great classic skiers out there like Veerpalu, Rotchev, Cologna... Hopefully we see some fireworks from him this season! Good luck Andy!

This is really exciting! I can't wait to watch. Perhaps next year, without the need for peaking for the Olympics, we'll see Kikkan and Freeman bust it out in the Tour.
