does anyone know of any of any good websites for buying ski gear such as boots and poles?
I started out using Swix's pole "race". I've had 3 pairs of those that I broke when skiing so i figured i needed a stronger pole so I moved up to Swix's pole "cross" or CT4 but now I've broken 2 pairs of those. I'm getting tired of dishing out almost 100 bucks every time I need a new pair of poles so I'm thinking of spending a bit extra getting a pair of Swix's "star" poles. Hopefully those will stay in one piece.
Also I'm currently using a pair of Atomic combi boots but, they just aren't meeting my needs. so, I'm thinking of getting a pair of skates and a pair of classics. I would like so decent boots but nothing like the salomon s-lab's or anything like that. I would prefer to stick with Salomon because I've tried several different brands and salomon's always had the best feel to them. I would like to pay no more than 300 on the poles and no more than 350 on each pair of boots. Thanks for any help you can give.

gearwest, akers, boulder nordic all have good websites. If you have a model number in mind you can just google it, often a single pair of boots or skis might be discounted online to clear inventory. Reliable racing is also a good source, new moon is good too.

I am using the atomic classic boots and like them, along with the infinity poles. Infinity sells poles on ebay

I hesitate to say this, but if you've broken 5 pairs of poles in recent history, I can honestly say that it isn't the equipment. Spending more money on poles doesn't get you any more durability, quite the opposite in most cases. I actually would recommend a pair of cheaper poles, or even some Swix AluLite's for the time being until you can get that breakage tendency under control.

That being said, a lot of websites have closeouts this time of year, so consider just doing some surfing and find the best deal on a pole that isn't too expensive to break. All the websites listed above are great places to start, plus pacosxc.com, marmotmountain.com, and more.

well i've only broken the shaft 2 twice in the last 5 months the other 3 were the grips that broke. so maybe another question i should ask is "do the grips get stronger as well as the shaft?"

Grips you can take off...and replace for a lot less than $100.
