with too much time on my hands, i started thinking about classic rollerski wheels. main faults seem to be poor tracking, unequal wear, wobbly (some) and expensive (all)
with a ratchet up front or behind that only leaves one wheel to play with, so what can you replace it with? well i was thinking of 2 inline skate wheels fixed side by side, not the hard PU bone shakers but the softer compound rubber wheels found in indoor roller hockey skate or K2 Nordic skate wheels as made by continental.
why?
well, take two inline wheels and bolt them together... see how stable they are? they don't tip. see how light they are? see how cheap they are?
a wheel that is stable will encourage glide on a flat foot and a safer downhill (my theory anyway) over time the body will become used to this flat position and carry over to skis, and a flat ski is a faster ski.
so?
i recently picked up a pair of marwe classic frames and forks, being a two part fork i can space them wider to fit a wider wheel, as i only have hard 82A inline wheels i need to find a very smooth surface to try this out, i also need to find a longer bolt to use as an axle. but try i will, and i'll report back.
however before i start, i'd like to know if anyone has tried anything like this before. the only thing similar off the shelf seems to be the maplus twin which has raised ridges on the wheels, anybody tried these? or is there another product?
