Leaving fluros on skis before storage?

I prepared three pairs of skis for a race this past weekend not knowing what the course conditions would be like the next morning. I prepared the glide zones with high fluro hot wax with a fluro block rub-on with a rotocork.

I only tested two of the pairs and did not put one of the race prep'd skis on the snow. My question is in regard to the pair not used. (I hot wax cleaned the pairs that I used).

I have been told by wax techs to clean off the pure fluro before "storage" even if the skis were not used. The question is: Why does the fluro need to be removed from the base?

My personal experience with fluoros is that they oxidize on the base quickly...I note that my bases take on an opaque color within a week. That said, I have also found that if I buff the bases with Fibertex and/or a very soft plastic brush that the original shine comes back completely and that the skis perform as expected.

I don't know what is behind the cleaning advice you were given. I'm always skeptical of input like that from people that have wax to sell (like the 'travel wax' myth...I don't do that either, and my boards haven't suffered at all for it).

If you find any definitive science on the topic, please share. This is the first I have heard of it, and I have been waxing with flouros for years.

I found this "tip" on the Tognar website:
    http://www.tognar.com/waxing_tips_ski_snowboard.html

“After racing, scour any remaining 100% fluoros from bases by simply skiing them off, followed up with hot-scrape waxing when you return to the workshop.” -Randy Graves (former Rossignol U.S. Team & World Cup race service technician, junior program coordinator and alpine ski product manager; current Green Mountain Valley School teacher, coach and race service technician)

However, the "tip" from a ski service tech (not a wax seller) does not explain why.
