Does anybody have any information on the NIS type binding Salomon has patented or is trying to patent? There is a European patent or application (I'm not sure because it is in French I think)that is for an NIS type of system. From the diagrams it looks like the Salomon binding may work with existing NIS plates. I have also seen a USA application by Salomon that also shows an adjustable position. Anybody know when this might make it to market?

It appears this is an old article from other things they are mentioning.
From: http://xcskiresorts.com/equipment.html
But there is breaking news and confirmation that Salomon has developed a plate to work with the new NIS binding, which is an NNN product that is integrated on some ski models within the Rossignol, Madshus, and now Fischer brands. The NIS requires that the binding be "snapped on" to the ski and adjusted to size for an individual skier. This means that mounting the binding does not require drilling holes in the ski.

I have heard the Salomon is developing their own NIS-style system. Apparently their binding will work on Rottefella's NIS plate, but Rottefella's bindings will not work on the Salomon plate. This is just rumor at this point....

None of those pictures are of anything new, its very clearly seen in the second picture that Hellner has regular salomon bindings mounted on top of a NIS plate.

Just to clarify these photos. In the biathlon podium shot with 2 Fischer skis and 1 Atomic ski, both Fischer skiers have a new NNN binding. In the 2nd and 3rd photo, Tobi Angerer (Rossi) also has this new binding. Both Hellner and Olson have their Salomon Pilot Skate bindings drilled through the NIS plate; which is something that is easily done just as you would drill and screw on a flat ski. KJ-Salomon USA

Yeah the new NIS binding will open from the front now rather than the previous design that had it lifting from the binding pin side. That is probably why people on here mistook it for being a Salomon binding. The lever is also made of metal rather than plastic and is half the weight of the previous NIS binding.
It's still compatible with all previous NNN style boots. Should have some at the Birkie that will be available to demo.Posted 1 year ago # -
ok,so I was wrong because of skate bindings drilled through the nis plate

No dude,
Every one of those pictures you posted has skis with the new NIS binding mounted, no screws, on the NIS plate. The bindings are the ones with a silver lever. The skis with Salomon bindings, screwed into the NIS plate, are fairly obvious because it is the same Salomon binding that has been around for some time now.

in the first photo list in the above post, what Atomic skis are those?
Posted 1 year ago # -
World Cup Featherlites. They come in at 900gr/pair

MFK - Are the Atomics a redesign, or just new topsheet cosmetics on the old sidecut design? Also - How is the factory base grind on those skis? Thanks...

I know the Featherlights are on the Atomic website, but the pictured ones are different. Maybe just a new Graphics package?
