Recently, while perusing a copy of the 2009-2010 race season Master Skier, I came across a listing of medals hopefuls for Vancouver, something like 10 per male and 10 females. Amazingly, this American-based ski rag did not put either Freeman or Newell in the hunt. Kikkan Randall was there, but she was the lone American. I think that's just a load of BS! I'm not sure which list they pulled the "hopefuls" from, but Newell, Freeman and Randall each certainly make mine.

It was actually a list of "Skiers to Watch" in the Olympics and mentioned a small group of racers that have had significant results in the past few years (ie. wins). This is more of a reference of potentially strong contenders in Vancouver for people that are not as knowledgeable on the elite racing level.

It's good that Newell and Freeman were not mentioned, because who wants to read a biased publication just because it's from the U.S.? Not to say that they are not in the running as medal contenders though, because that is definitely possible.

Who really pays attention to this stuff though, because last time I checked, 'Lukas Bauer' isn't from Germany!!
